Lightning storm power surge has damaged my Xbox 360 but it wasn' t in use at the time?

When I switch the console on and there is audio but no display.
It seems the GPU is damaged but is that possible when the Xbox wasn't on at the time of the power surge? It was plugged into the TV via AV and it may not have been plugged into the mains but let's assume it was because I cannot remember rightly.
The lightning strike (that hit my neighbors house) killed my TV, desktop (motherboard) and other running electronics.
