Do you think Ronaldo is right when he says that it was harder to win the Ballon d' Or back in his days?

I am quoting the legendary and ORIGINAL Ronaldo O Fenomeno directly, here:
"In my time it was between me, Zidane, Figo, Ronaldinho, David Beckham…there were a list of ten who could be World's Best Player."

He also said:
"Maybe Cristiano will win another Ballon d'Or in the future, but at this moment Messi is a step ahead."

Is he right?
I do agree with him, who is going to win it Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo or Andres Iniesta?
